History

Mid-Surrey Mencap was formed by a group of parents of disabled children in 1958 .They were concerned that their children were not having their needs understood and being denied opportunities . There was a great need for mutual support.

A great voluntary effort of fundraising and work led to the building of our headquarters Fortyfoot Hall. For over 50 years now we have provided valued services to our members .

We now aim to continue renewing our charity to stay true to the vision of our pioneer members who wanted to offer a place where people can truly be themselves.

To this end our plans to provide a new purpose built centre at Fortyfoot were passed by Mole Valley Council in November . We anticipate the building works to start in the coming months . There is a lot of clearing out to be done in the coming weeks .

We are having a celebration of the current hall on Sunday 15th January from 15.00 there will be a tea party with the opportunity to meet up with friends old and new . From 19.00 there will be live music from Joanne Rowlands . Joanne is the singer who entertained us so well at the last two barbecues .

We intend to run transport to the live music in the evening . To book a place on the minibus call me Steve Dyke in the office on 01372 374555.
